Brackets attach to your windshield with strong 3M tape
IMPORTANT: For best tape adhesion, do not apply brackets on an extremely hot windshield, tape will cure too fast. Install in shaded area if possible. Also be sure windshield is clean and wiped dry before installation.
STEP 1
Sit in the front seat on the passenger side and attach two mounting brackets to the buttons on the back side of The Shade™. (Opposite side of handle. See drawing.)
STEP 2
With the brackets in place, put The Shade™ next to the pillar post on the passenger side. Center between the top and bottom of the windshield. Be sure the handle is positioned so you can grab it with your right hand from the driver’s side. (If not, The Shade™ needs to be flipped 180º)
STEP 3
Mark the correct positions of the mounting brackets making sure they are both lying flat on the windshield (mark with marking tape, erasable marker, or wax crayon).
STEP 4
Open the alcohol swab and wipe the inside of the windshield where the brackets will attach.
STEP 5
With the brackets still on The Shade™, remove the backing paper from the adhesive pads on the brackets.
Press The Shade™ onto the windshield so the brackets stick to the glass. Get as close as possible to your markings from Step 3.
STEP 6
Gently slide The Shade™ off the brackets and press firmly on the flat parts of the brackets for 30 seconds. (You can view from the outside while applying pressure to ensure you obtain maximum contact of adhesive to glass.)
STEP 7
Place The Shade™ onto the brackets on the passenger side.
STEP 8
Attach one bracket to the button on the handle of The Shade™ and extend all the way across the window next to the driver’s side windshield post. Pull The Shade™ around the mirror (not behind it).
STEP 9
Mark latch bracket position with masking tape or crayon as in Step 3. Be sure to leave some room at the top of the windshield to allow The Shade™ to be lifted off of the bracket when retracting. Retract The Shade™ into its casing.
STEP 10
Attach driver’s side latch bracket (as in Steps 4-6). Make sure surface is clean. Allow adhesive to cure for 24 hours before using The Shade™.
Q: How do you know what size Shade™ fits my vehicle?
We measure the windshield on the right side of each vehicle to determine the ideal height of your Shade™ so it can be pulled across your windshield without obstruction.
Q: How does the Shade™ fit around my rear view mirror?
When the Shade™ is pulled across the windshield, it is pulled around the rear view mirror so that the mirror is between the Shade™ and the windshield. Your sun visors should then be put down to hold the Shade™ in place for maximum sun protection.
Q: Sometimes the pleats in my Shade™ get bunched up. What do I do?
This happens for several reasons, but typically it’s when the handle falls out of your grasp. All you have to do is carefully manipulate the fabric to reshape the pleats and retract the Shade™ back into its casing. The pleats should return to shape. If they are still bunched up, you may need to lift the Shade™ off its brackets to more easily reshape the pleats, and then replace Shade™ back on its brackets.
Q: One of the strings on my Shade™ broke. What do I do?
If your Shade™ is still under warranty, you can send it to us and we will fix it at no cost. If your Shade™ is no longer under warranty, we charge only $15.00 to repair it. You pay for shipping your Shade™ to us, we pay for shipping your repaired Shade™ back to you.
Q: What do I do if the brackets for my Shade™ come off the windshield?
The Shade™ brackets cannot be reused as the adhesive tape is good for only one application. This adhesive tape is very aggressive, so if your brackets come off, it’s possible that during installation your windshield glass was not cleaned thoroughly with the provided alcohol swab, or you didn’t press the brackets into place firmly enough, or you didn’t wait 24 hours before using your Shade™. A new set of brackets with new adhesive tape can be ordered from Dash-Topper®.
Q: The brackets came off, but the tape is still stuck on my windshield. What do I do?
You may be able to reinstall your brackets. Remove the brackets from the body of your Shade™. Clean the mounting surface of the brackets with rubbing alcohol or other cleaner and then firmly press the bracket back on the tape on the windshield. Wait 24 hours before using your Shade™. If this doesn’t work, you can order new brackets with new adhesive tape from Dash-Topper®.
Q: How do I remove the Shade™ brackets from my windshield?
You can remove your Shade™ brackets by using a putty knife to carefully pry them loose from the glass.
Q: Does the Shade™ come with a warranty?
Yes, the Original Shade comes with 2-year limited warranty.
